Travel Cytotechnologist (Cytotech) – 13 Week Contract | Day Shift | Hospital Laboratory

Now Hiring: Experienced Cytotechnologists

• Location: Bel Air, MD

• Contract Length: 13 Weeks with possible extension

• Schedule: Monday – Friday (Day Shift 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM)

• Pay: $63/hr

The Cytotechnologist is responsible for preparing, screening, evaluating, and documenting cytology specimens for diagnostic interpretation. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and expertise in gynecological and non-gynecological cytology procedures.

This role requires proficiency in specimen preparation, staining techniques, quality assurance, and collaboration with pathologists and laboratory professionals.

Key Responsibilities

Cytology Testing & Analysis

• Screen and evaluate cytology specimens for abnormal cellular changes.

• Prepare and process cytology samples according to laboratory protocols.

• Perform microscopic examination of gynecological and non-gynecological specimens.

• Identify and document abnormal findings for pathologist review.

• Maintain high levels of diagnostic accuracy and specimen integrity.

Specimen Processing

• Prepare ThinPrep and conventional cytology specimens.

• Verify specimen labeling and patient identification.

• Process body fluid and respiratory tract specimens.

• Prepare slides and perform fixation procedures.

• Assist with specimen collection and preparation when needed.

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) Support

• Assist with Fine Needle Aspiration procedures.

• Prepare and stain cytology smears.

• Perform rapid on-site evaluations when applicable.

• Support pathologists during specimen adequacy assessments.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

• Follow laboratory quality control and quality assurance standards.

• Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and laboratory regulations.

• Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.

• Participate in laboratory improvement initiatives.

• Monitor specimen quality and troubleshoot processing issues.

Collaboration & Communication

• Work closely with pathologists, laboratory staff, physicians, and clinical teams.

• Support interdisciplinary communication regarding specimen processing and results.

• Contribute to efficient laboratory workflow and turnaround times.

Required Qualifications

Education

• Associate Degree or higher in Cytotechnology, Medical Laboratory Science, Biological Science, or related laboratory field

Certifications

• ASCP Certification Required

• Cytotechnology Certification Preferred

• ASCP-CT Preferred

• BLS Certification Preferred

Experience

• Minimum 1 year of Cytotechnologist experience

• Strong cytology laboratory experience required

• Inpatient hospital laboratory experience required
